Welcome to the first blog article for Discover Bible Gems. This website is dedicated to helping people discover the wonderful truths of His Word. It is designed to help them learn how to mine the Scriptures to learn God’s will for their lives. There is treasure to be found in the pages of the Bible.
“Then said He [Jesus] unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old (Matthew 13:52)
The foundational premise for this page is “Scriptura Suprema.” That is a Latin phrase and I am using it to express the truth that God’s Word, as found in the holy Bible, is supposed to be our supreme authority. Our lives are to be regulated by a plain “thus saith the Lord.” The Son of God Himself, while here upon the earth, said the following:
“But He answered and said, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.’ (Matthew 4:4)
Jesus said that in response to one of satan’s temptions. He was actually quoting the prophet Moses, as recorded in Deuteronomy.
“And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. (Deut 8:3)
The lesson that God taught to ancient Israel, which Jesus repeated in resisting satan, is for us too! The Bible, the written Word of God, is the ultimate and sufficient source of Divine revelation. It contains all that is necessary for salvation and Christian living. It is a vast resource of truth, revealing who God is, and what He desires from us. Through the holy Scriptures, God teaches us incredible things, like where we come from, why there is evil in this world, what He has done about it throughout history, how we can be saved, and many other things. The ultimate purpose of God’s Word is to to reconnect with Himself by faith in His only begotten Son. As the apostle John once wrote:
“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His Name (John 20:31)
By the assistance of the Spirit of truth, which Jesus promised as an aid to help us (John 16:13), you can be connected to God the Father through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. This is our life, our salvation, our joy, and purpose.
I invite you to join me as we explore the Scriptures and dig for gems of truth in His Word. May God, by His Spirit, guide you into all truth and reveal many gems to you. I pray that you will cherish them and help spread the good news of the Gospel to others as well.
Yours in the love of Christ,
Jason Smith
